Detailed description

Koronjää 5 km hiking loop is a terrific excursion to Korouoma's grand gorge valley. Koronjää is Finland's only icefall route, where you can see Korouoma's magnificent icefalls every winter. In summer, the area offers views of the flowing river and the presence of impressive cliffs.

The Koronjää trailhead starts from the Saukkavaara parking lot and leads to the Hannunkallio viewpoint. From there, the trail descends to Korojoki, Koro River, where the large winter icefalls include Jaska Jokunen, Mammutti and Ruskeavirta. The route then ascends through Saanyovaavu back up to Saukkavaara. Total trip time is about 5 hours, with about 2 hours spent at Koronjää.

Tours depart from Arctic Guesthouse & Igloos, Pappilantie 1, 97700 Ranua. Please arrive approximately 10 minutes before departure. Pickup can be arranged from Ranua Resort Arctic Igloos reception or Ranua Resort Safari House when requested well in advance.
